Green Light For Prime Four

The establishment of a world-class energy hub in Aberdeen took a major step forward today with City Council backing for new North Sea headquarters for two of the world’s leading energy corporations.

Planning approval has been given by Councillors for new office complexes, improved transport links and services for Apache North Sea Limited and Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd at Drum Property Group’s Prime Four business park at Kingswells on the outskirts of the city.      

“Naturally, we are very pleased with today’s decision and in general with the level of support and interest shown by Councillors and planning officials in the development of Prime Four,” commented Drum Director Graeme Bone.

“As we have stated in the past, we have no doubt of Prime Four’s attractiveness as a business location for major multinational concerns and of its long-term potential to generate many billions of pounds of economic activity for Aberdeen and anchor thousands of jobs in the city for years to come.”

The Apache and Nexen applications are each for office developments of 100,000sq.ft and comprise plots 1 and 2 of Phase 1 of the park. An application has also been submitted for plot 3, a proposed 100,000sq.ft UK headquarters and global training facility for leading offshore drilling contractor Transocean Drilling UK Limited. It is hoped this will be approved shortly.

The Transocean application completes Phase 1. It has been estimated this phase will sustain around 1,200 jobs locally and be worth £300million a year to the local economy when fully operational.

Drum is close to finalising a lead construction contractor for Phase 1 with a view to work starting onsite by the end of April.

This first phase represents an investment of £100million by Drum and is expected to act as a catalyst for significant additional investment in Prime Four.

Future office developments in Phases 2 and 3 as well as the make-up of a ‘Community Hub’ for the second phase are already under consideration and a community consultation exercise seeking local residents' views is currently taking place. 

The Kingswells site occupies a highly strategic location adjacent to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the existing park-and-ride facility.
